Oklahoma City Diagnostics & Ultrasound Services
A Closer Look at Your Pet’s Health
Understanding what’s ailing your pet when they’re not feeling their best can be difficult, as they can’t tell us what’s wrong. Fortunately, the veterinary team at Woodlake Animal Hospital can help. We offer advanced diagnostics, digital radiology, and ultrasounds to help us diagnose your pet’s condition when a physical or visual exam leaves us with more questions about your pet’s health. Our veterinary team will use all of the tools at our disposal to help get your pet back on the road to a happy, healthy life.
If you need Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certification or AIS PennHIP screenings to evaluate your pet’s risk of osteoarthritis, we can help! We know how important early detection is to keeping your pet healthy and happy for as long as possible.
On-Site Laboratory Services
Woodlake Animal Hospital is proud to offer laboratory services on-site, which means your pet can get tested and get their results back faster than if we had to send your pet’s samples to an outside lab. Lab testing can tell us a myriad of information about your pet’s health.
Our on-site laboratory services include tests such as:
- Complete blood count
- Chemistry panels
- Fecal checks
- Heartworm testing
These tests can tell our veterinarians a lot of information about your pet’s condition. We keep careful records to ensure that we have a thorough medical history of your pet, which helps us identify warning signs of developing diseases before they become a major health problem.
The Difference Between X-Rays & Ultrasounds
Both X-rays and ultrasounds can help our team to visualize what’s going on beneath your pet’s fur. While X-rays can help us see the dense or solid tissues inside of your pet’s body, ultrasounds help us see the soft or delicate tissues inside of your pet. Depending on what your veterinarian needs to see, we will recommend either digital X-rays or ultrasounds to help us get a clearer picture of your pet’s health.
Importantly, both X-rays and ultrasounds are totally pain-free and non-invasive. You can be sure that your pet will be well taken care of during these imaging procedures.
X-Rays: Visualizing Bones & Muscles
At Woodlake Animal Hospital, we use digital X-ray technology to take still images of your pet’s bones, muscles, or other dense tissues inside of your pet’s body. Digital X-rays use a small dose of electromagnetic radiation to take these images. Because we use the latest digital technology, we are able to get a very clear image with a high degree of detail. However, to get the best image possible, we may need to sedate your pet so that we don’t have any blurring.
Ultrasounds: Visualizing Organs & Soft Tissues
Unlike X-rays, ultrasounds do not use radiation to take images of your pet’s internal organs and other soft tissues. Ultrasounds use high-frequency sound waves to generate real-time images of your pet’s soft tissues. These sound waves are safe for use on delicate tissues and developing fetuses. Ultrasounds can produce both still and moving images for your pet’s insides, so our veterinary ultrasound technicians in Oklahoma City won’t need to sedate them in order to get the best picture.
